Week 1 of MPL PH Season 16 has already given fans plenty of drama and surprises, but few expected the rollercoaster clash between Team Falcons (FLCN) and Aurora Gaming (RORA) to unfold the way it did. For Aurora, this was an opportunity to showcase their potential and set the tone early in the season. For Falcons, it was a chance to test their new recruit, rookie Ferdz, who made his MPL debut in the EXP Lane. What started as a dominant showing for RORA quickly turned into a painful lesson in patience and composure, as FLCN proved that one mistake is all it takes for the game to flip.
Game 1:
RORA came into the first game swinging, establishing dominance from the very beginning. The squad executed their game plan flawlessly, securing an 11-4 kill lead within 15 minutes and pushing FLCN into a corner. Rookie Ferdz was tested early, but the Falcons’ overall strategy revolved around dragging the game into the late stages. Their patience paid off—at the 17-minute mark, FLCN stole momentum with a crucial Lord dance victory. Even with a 10k gold deficit, the Falcons refused to back down. Aurora’s desperation to contest the 23-minute Lord attempt ended in disaster, resulting in a complete team wipe. Falcons immediately marched down the lane and claimed an unlikely comeback victory.
Game 2:
Riding the high of their Game 1 turnaround, Team Falcons looked unstoppable in the second match. Their early aggression caught RORA off-guard, snowballing the game entirely in their favor. Aurora had no answers to the relentless pressure, as the Falcons confidently closed out the series with a clean 2-0 sweep.
Team Falcons not only secured their first series win of the season but also showcased the strength of their roster depth with Ferdz making a memorable debut. For Aurora Gaming, the loss will sting, especially after letting Game 1 slip away—but the season is still young, and there’s plenty of time for redemption.
