MOONTON Games, the developer and publisher behind the global hit Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), has been honored with the prestigious Paragon Award at the 3rd Women in Professional Sports Awards held on September 26 at Okada Manila.
With the theme “FILIPINAS: Perlas ng Silangan, Tanglaw ng Kinabukasan” (“FILIPINAS: Pearl of the Orient, Light of the Future”), the annual event recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to advancing women’s roles in professional sports across the Philippines.
MOONTON Games Recognized as the only game dev and publisher to empower women in esports
Presented by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), the Paragon Award recognized MOONTON Games for its outstanding efforts in growing the female esports ecosystem. Notably, MOONTON was the only game developer and publisher recognized during this year’s ceremony.
“Congratulations to MOONTON Games. Your achievement is well-recognized, and may you continue what you’re doing for women in esports. You are contributing greatly to the development of esports in the country,” said Atty. Francisco J. Rivera, Chairman of the Games and Amusements Board.
Building Opportunities for Women in Esports
MOONTON Games has made inclusivity a central pillar of its esports initiatives. This year, it launched the Athena League, a groundbreaking program aimed at providing pathways for women aspiring to enter the professional MLBB esports scene.
The Athena League served as the official qualifier for the MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI)—the premier global tournament for female athletes held at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last July. Philippine representatives Team Liquid PH and NAVI PH showcased strong performances, finishing 4th and 5th respectively.
“At MOONTON Games, our commitment has always been to create a pathway to an inclusive esports ecosystem. We aim to empower female players to showcase their talent on the biggest stages,” said Lee Viloria, PH Esports Head of Business Development and Partnerships at MOONTON Games. “This recognition inspires us to continue supporting women as they take their rightful place in shaping the future of esports.”
Recognition from the Esports Community
The award also drew praise from the Philippine Esports Organization (PESO).
“MOONTON Games stands out as one of the few publishers that has genuinely succeeded in engaging our talented women gamers, consistently providing them with incredible opportunities both locally and internationally,” said Marlon Marcelo, Executive Director of PESO. “Your commitment is truly inspiring, and PESO celebrates wholeheartedly with you for this incredibly well-deserved achievement.”
Looking Ahead: SEA Games 2025
The Philippines will continue its push for female esports representation at the upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games this December in Bangkok, Thailand. The national roster will be led by NAVI PH’s core players—Gwyneth Diagon, Kaye Alpuerto, Rica Amores, Sheen Perez, and Mery Vivero, under coach Salman Macarambon—with Team Liquid PH’s Clarisse Nicole Cordova joining as the team’s sixth player.
With this award and its ongoing initiatives, MOONTON Games strengthens its role as a trailblazer in shaping a more inclusive and diverse esports landscape, ensuring that women continue to have a rightful place on the competitive stage.
