Day 2 of MPL PH Season 16 Week 1 delivered yet another thriller as AP.Bren (APBR) clashed with Smart Omega (OMG). Both squads entered the season eager to prove themselves—APBR seeking redemption after last season’s struggles, and OMG looking to showcase their resilience with a revitalized lineup. The series went the distance, with momentum swinging back and forth before APBR finally closed out the decisive Game 3 to secure their first victory of the season.
Game 1:
APBR came out of the gates with ruthless precision, showing no signs of hesitation in their debut. OMG struggled to find their footing as Jamespank’s Akai consistently zoned them out of crucial objectives. Meanwhile, Shizuo’s flawless Moskov performance stole the spotlight, finishing with 8 kills and zero deaths. The clean execution from APBR left OMG without answers, and Game 1 ended in a commanding win for the Hive.
Game 2:
Determined not to go down quietly, OMG regrouped and delivered a much sharper performance in the second game. The match stayed even throughout the early to mid stages until a pivotal Lord fight at the 14-minute mark. APBR attempted to force a teamfight but faltered, losing three members and conceding the Lord. With that advantage, OMG snowballed their lead, pushing decisively to close the game and tie the series at 1-1.
Game 3:
With the series on the line, both teams opted for a cautious approach in the final game. OMG secured the early lead with better objective control, but APBR’s patience in the late game paid off. Key Lord takes allowed them to widen their map presence and apply relentless pressure. Eventually, OMG’s defenses crumbled, and APBR sealed the series victory with a decisive late-game push.
AP.Bren’s 2-1 triumph over Smart Omega was a strong statement for their season opener, showing that the Hive are serious about bouncing back from last season’s disappointments. For OMG, the series was a reminder of both their strengths and vulnerabilities, setting the stage for adjustments in the weeks ahead.
